Plastering onto Lath

<< BACK TO MAIN SITE

Traditionally, timber lath was constructed from River Oak or Chestnut.
Expanded Metal Lath (EML) is replacing timber laths in most modern construction both in new constructions and also quite commonly in renovation work.
Lime plaster however, sticks less easily to metal laths and normal sand and cement mortar began to replace lime mortars. These give the building an impervious finish which can lead to cracking.
These practices can destroy the traditional approach to building and result in buildings which cannot breathe and which can easily damage the structure.
